Planning to replace it with the same Stock TVS Front Tyre, as it never gave me any trouble...
Seems like rear Tyre has some Juice left in it... At least a 1000 Km's More... KM's Done: 20,500, Services Done: All Free, Regular Paid at every 3000 Km's.
Good things About Apache RTR:
1. The Pickup.
2. High Speed Handling.
3. Power which never dies even at high RPM.
4. Mileage. I get around 50 Kmpl with run speeds of 50-80Kmph with Occasional high rippings.
5. Breaking, The breaks have never let me down. The front disc is so precise and efficient.
Problems With Apache RTR:
1. Vibrations when you are almost reaching service time.
2. Your Chain Loosen up easily if you run your Bike above 100 Kmph for a few Km's.
3. Some tick tick Noise which comes Some tappet noise they call it.
4. Rear Tyre Not so good just turns it's tail if you hit those rear breaks Hard.

So that's a overall summary of Apache RTR 160.
Any day i would prefer a Apache RTR over Pulsar or any other 150 CC bike.
So Don't waste your time reading this Review. Enjoy Riding. Wear a Helmet.

Oridinary VS High Octane

Yes, the hype is all about Ordinary Petrol VS High Octane Petrol these days. Is there any difference between them or are they just the same....?? I just Found out after completing 19000Km on my RTR.
Ordinary petrol is Cheaper than high Octane petrol by 2-5 Rs depending on the Brand. Is it worth the Price gap...??
If you are a normal Rider riding withing 60 Kmph then you will never know the difference between the Ordinary petrol and High octane petrol. The performance difference between two can be made up at high revs and high speeds.
Ordinary Petrol does not give you that smoothness once you have crossed 60 Kmph. Pickup is jerky and it takes time to reach higher speeds. Where as with high Octane you get a smoother acceleration above 60 Kmph, Smoother pickup and less jerks.
Main thing you will notice with high octane petrol is Less vibrations at speeds above 60 Kmph.
Mileage...?? I never could find out a difference. It was almost the same.
So if you wanna Smoother,Faster and with less vibrations it's worth investing a little more on the High Octane petrol, Because you never know when you need that a little extra in throttle to overtake that Mines truck or That Express Bus.

I have tried all the High Octane Petrols. BP Speed is being latest one, Power from HP is just as good, XP from IO if i don't have any other option. Tried Shell High octane once It was just OK.

16500 Km's and Going...!!!

Yes it's 9 Months old now done 16500 Km done and it's still shining...Average run per day...?? Speed of 70Kmph is just a ordinary thing now. Breaking is the thing i trust most so i keep the breaks in proper condition. So let me tell a Crazy story now.

Yesterday was a Very High Speed day for my RTR. 36 Km in just 24-25 minutes.....!!!
I still remember those 100+ speeds witnessing a few Km stretches. The rev meter never below 6000 rpm. Those Continuous 3rd-4th-5th gear transfers to keep the bike in High Power band,90 Kmph in 3rd gear at some crazy High rpm, Those curves at 80Kmph.
Ya it Handled them all like a pro Racing bike. But I have decided I will never ride like that again. Not because Bike will fail, but I listened a lot from people after i told i did that. So no More speeding.

Speed,Handling and Power..... Came from office to collect the bike, Almost lost an hour and half due to them that was the reason for my anger. That was a very bad experience with Veechi Motors,Udupi.
Everything else was done properly, only the Break fluid they didn't fill and They just didn't follow the time that was the main reason for which i am not satisfied, Complained with the manager and i started back because a lot of work was pending in the office.
Seems like my RTR is getting OLD... :(
Not in terms of Performance but in terms of the looks, They just launched 2 models after i Purchased. One was 2008 refresh and other was FI.
There are vibrations when i cross 7000rpm, Ya i am crazy to tell them as any bike vibrates at such high RPM's I feel, Handling is just amazing after that service.
Just cooling my temper down from the service person, he might have thought just neglecting me would have sufficed to make me go off, and probably he never imagined that I will speak to the manager, when manager asked him, he was telling it was not there in complaint....!! What the fuck, that's the most basic thing you need to check...!!!!
Told the manager if you want then charge money but don't neglect these things, and also told him 5th was last free service and this is my last service at your service station, a big NAMASKARA...
So next paid service at some other service station..
Now next Saturday have to meet my local mechanic to fill the fluid, was in a very hurry so just told no thanks, already wasted one and half hour can't waste more.
Till the Bike runs....Apache RTR Rocks... But TVS Service doesn't,,......... :( :(

Power Delivery...

Now something about the power delivery...
These days I rip the bike hard, Get the max from it's engine, Changing gears at high rpms, Sometimes even at 9000+, just for that fun element.
Whats So special about this bike...??
It Likes to get ripped, It likes to stay above the 5000rpm mark. 5000rpm is the key rpm for the RTR, the bike will be doing some 64Kmph at 5000rpm. But if you just open the throttle a little you will feel the power coming out of engine, pushing you back, taking you above 80-100Kmph in no time. We were riding around 40 Km/h Another friend was in front of me with his bike. Due to Heavy rain and Night time riding he lost track of road and just went to extreme right of the road. Expecting him to come back to left side suddenly i hit the Back Break with a little of Front break, we came down till 20 km/h and suddenly we had a sliding back tyre, Bikes back side Drifted in Anti clockwise direction and we had a fall to the right side.
Next morning i woke Up and Started to examine the damage done, My Old Jeans Torn at the back pocket, No scratches to me Thanks to my mobile(?) which took all the scratches being in the back pocket. Now the bike went and examined every part of it. No scratches on tank or on handle bar nothing on the side panes either. Then finally located the area which went in touch with the road.... THE SAREE GUARD.. Thats all.. Sigh... Very Happy as no major damage....
Planning to stop biking till rain stops and pick a bus rather... And thank god for no rain... else surely that Swift fellow had to change his back bumper...

8500 Km on ODO...

Yeah Boy Just Got the bike after 4th service,

Problems I had,

Front left fork had a Oil Leak - Fixed,
Engine valve was making too much Noise - Seems to be fixed.
Back Tyre was not aligned - Got the Tyre aligned.
Chain was lose and making some Noise even for a small Bump - Fixed.
And all those regular things Oil Change etc etc.

After such a nice service those Morons disconnected Speedometer wire , i realized it after riding some 1 km, Went Back and told them,They are telling me it was already disconnected while giving for service....!!?? So they Thought i disconnected the cable so they never bothered to reconnect it....!!!??? Man i remember riding at 80's while i was getting in the bike for service in the morning... Ha ha...

Whatever...... Feels Good to ride it after that Service.

As Rain has started i am planning to Minimize the use of Bike as I hate riding in rain with Raincoat...

And finally i have a Problem With My RTR, i.e it does not know what is 30-40-50 Kmph... It just likes the Speedometer above 60Kmph... ha ha.. That is a problem when you want to ride slow...

Those 90Kmph and 100Kmph come out of No where...The bike never gives up even at 90 or 100Kmph. Just turn that throttle a bit and the engine just roars to 9000-10000 rpm never letting you down even at that high RPM. Once i was just riding hard and reached 10000 rpm in third gear... U just love to listen to that engine roar... Now Addicted... Ha ha ha..

BTW i forgot to mention mileage...? For last full tank i got 52.4 Kmpl... Thats just fine.... concidering tose 90s and 100s... :)

I just went through someones Siggy in some forums last week
Peace is at 9000 rpm with Top Gear...
So True....

Switch Of Petrol...

Which petrol to pour into tank????
Was Using Xtra Premium till date, Decided to change to HP Power. Shocker was that the Back Tyre was getting Locked as if It's completely flat, dragging my bike to one side,no sense of grip at all.

Incident 2:
Monday's it's a little difficult to get up in the morning, so had to ride a Little fast, Was overtaking a Lorry and A bus came in front, Just hit the Back brake a little Hard voila it feels like it is completely flat and skidding like it's rolling on glass.

Nothing Bad happened to ME, but these two events have shook me a little bit.

The rubber is there in Tyre But it is just not good enough, I am finally realizing that the TVS Tyre's are not good enough for my bike.

Asked Possible solution with a familiar Mechanic, he told me that TVS tyre have a long life as they are made up of a bit Harder Rubber and so they provide a little less grip. So changing to the rear tyre to MRF might solve my Rear Breaking Issue.

The Front Break is excellent and seems the Front tyre also has a better grip than the rear tyre.

The Odometer is reading 6900 Today (6th May 08) and there are no other complaints from Bike..

Today had a ride of 36 Km to office in 28 Minutes was just awesome, almost average of 80 Kmph on the route.Occasional 100's Were just coming out of no where.

As far as Mileage goes it is presently giving me 50-52 Kmpl. so no problems in that department.

Just scared of Rainy Season With this rear tyre..... :(

Riding Riding and More Riding.......

300+ Km's added to the Odometer On Sunday...
97 Km in a single stretch in 2 hours on curved roads...
My Ass is Paining after sitting so long on seat, But not my Back after such a long ride..
Occasion: A colleagues wedding, Me and my friend decided we will go on the bike as we can start late, So started at 11 am from my place, and riding 97 Km in a single stretch, voila we reached the location at 1 pm , i.e around 50Km/h on avg. on curved roads consisting of uphills and downhills. The ceremony got over and we started back, started around 2.30pm reached back by 4.15pm i.e around 55 km/h on avg.
Total distance Travelled 193.4 Km time taken is 3 hours 45 min.. Was a pleasant drive, the bike handled well, the brakes were spot on.. so No problems, Just as i was thinking todays riding is over..
A call from friend... 6 pm and a call from friend come lets roam... Lets go to Mangalore...I Start the Bike, Time to Burn some Rubber.... :)
11 pm Back home after ticking another 110 Km on the Odometer, Now the odometer is reading 6200 Km.. from where it was 5876 in the Morning...
After a solid riding day i imagine about tomorrows pain and go to sleep.. When the sunlight wakes me up in the morning i am searching for the pain, I am shocked.. 300 Km in a day riding and i have no Pain in my back...? Probably the Bike Suits me better than anything....
BTW, Completed the third service at 5600Km, The bike feels more refined and like a power monster drags you back when you open that Throttle,
The gear change Glitch is almost non existent.. Very Happy about that... and you are still Asking for the Mileage I can say it gives me around 50-53 Kmpl with all those high 70+ speeds most of the times...

Pillion Rider Speaks.....!!!

Me and My Friends went to Mangalore Last weekend on My RTR, P220 and Honda Shine
While Going to Mangalore
RTR - Single,as i had some work :) in the afternoon.
P220 & Shine had double as they came in the evening.

After the Fun got over we turned back, The P200 Pillion rider shifted to My bike(RTR) and the Shine Pillion rider shifted to the P220 (Shine was NEW so no high speed for the rider so the other friend got bored)
So while Returning
Shine-Single
RTR & P200 Doubles.

We were Just having a fun ride in the Night Rather than calling it racing.. 80-90 Km/h was the Avg,116 Km/h was the Top Speed.
While Riding back when we were almost back home Pillion rider was commenting on the Ride quality of RTR vs P200, He was telling 90Km/h on RTR felt like Smooth and Refined ,Unlike the P200 Which was creating much noise and vibrations at the same Speed.
So Even People Sitting Behind Can feel The difference... :)
RTR Rocks Baby...

Ride Hard...!!

118 Km/h ....!!!! Just Happy about choosing Apache RTR 160.
Heard that the New 2008 Model got launched for RTR, Just some Cosmetic stuff and some More IC's which can remember some 0-60Km/h Data. Eagerly waiting to see one on road, Want to see the Cosmetic Changes.

Some Glitches.....!!

After i got my Helmet the Speed on RTR has just Gone up, I was averaging around 50-70Km/h without helmet now i ride around 60-80Km/h as i am not scared of that dust anymore.

After 4100 Km on ODO I can find Some minor Glitches in the gearbox, I go to neutral gear(A false one as the neutral light Doesn't glow) while shifting up from 1st to 2nd gear. This incident happens once in around 25 Shifts(Thats a approximate value but this problem never felt a trouble though).
Another minor Glitch is also with the gearbox itself which occurs sometimes, if i suddenly slowdown to around 15-20 Km/h and i am in 3rd or 4th gear I get down to 2nd gear i get across a False neutral again, This is most annoying when it happens,as the speed will get down to and I have to shift down to 1st and go up the hierarchy again. the first one never bothered me but the second problem has started to annoy me a little. Have to get it rectified at service ASAP.

Another irritating thing is the Service Lamp. It once started glowing up at 1000Km now it started to glow again at 4000Km mark. Simple to fix, Butt annoying at times, To fix just Keep Pressing the SET and MODE buttons together for a few seconds in the ODO mode and that will fix that lamp thing.

Overall the Bike Runs Smooth, Just those two Gearbox Glitches to Rectify, No Troubles in the ride quality of bike as those two glitches are rare and just a bit careful shifting and i may never find that issues, I have become a little Rash Rider these days I feel.. :)

Mileage Is The Key...!!!

Wherever i go with my bike the first question people ask is how much you did pay for the bike.. Then the second one how much mileage is it giving...
Mileage, it's such an important factor when it comes to bikes. I commute a Minimum of 72 Km on weekdays and around 50 Km per day on weekends,(Provided i don't go out for a ride). I love speed but i like to ride the bike in range of 60-70 Km/h so, i end up running the bike at a range of 50 to 80 Km/h. So once i fill the tank the it takes me around 700 to 800 Km depending on the usage till the knob falls down to reserve.

16 lt. tank
2 lt. reserve

So 700 Km for 14 lt. that gives me a figure of 50 Km/l
So 750 Km for 14 lt. that gives me a figure of 53.57 Km/l
So 800 Km for 14 lt. that gives me a figure of 57.14 Km/l

Thats a pretty decent mileage for 160 cc Bike, thats what i feel..

Going smoothly gives you more mileage. Thats what i feel..
So With Apache RTR you can expect a Mileage around 50-60 under normal riding conditions...
:)

111 Kmph...!!!

Sunday is boring if you have nothing to do, So just started roaming with the bike, Went till Airport and came back simply.. It Seems like I am in a hurry to push it to the limits).

Ok drop him till the Shop after registration, The Bike Is Mine... Yippee…

He says the fuel the bike as they have not put much of petrol, Ok the Petrol Station is near by, I go and tell the person full tank, he stares at me like I am an alien. And starts fueling, 14.8 liters in its stomach, my wallet is burning, I pay 750Rs and get out from there, Now get out of the City…

Highway…

Oh god What a beautiful machine, open throttle and it runs just saw the speedometer I am riding at around 50 and a little more(Ya ya a lot more.... around 60), Ok, I don’t want to hurt my bike so brought it back to 50…

Just went into a cross road in between, some L type turns, the bike turns like a dream, this is surely a racer. Suddenly I see the clock in the Speedometer 1.35(good thing)..
